[INTRODUCTION]
Hal Elrod: Welcome to the Achieve Your Goals Podcast. This is your host, Hal Elrod, and I’m so grateful that you’re with me today because you deserve everything you want in life. And that is what we are going to talk about, is how do you get yourself to feel that you deserve it, that you believe that you deserve it? Because in life we get what we deserve and we really don’t get much more than that. And it’s true in every area of life, right? In a relationship, if you believe that you deserve to be loved and cherished, and cared for, then you’ll accept nothing less than what you deserve. But if, on the other hand, you don’t feel worthy of those things, then you’re not likely to get them. And the same is true in every area of life. If you believe you deserve to be financially free or that you deserve to be happy, whatever you believe you deserve, it’s the starting place of having, experiencing what it is that you want in your life. So, we’re going to go deeper into that topic, how to deserve everything you want in life.
And I want to just mention that where we’re going to go because today I talked about this in there’s really three different steps and I share them in different ways. And after I recorded the podcast, I always reflect back and I always question what could I have done better? And sometimes I’ll re-record the entire podcast as a result but I think today was pretty darn good. But I want to just simplify the formula that I’m going to share with you on how to deserve everything in life, I want to simplify it right up front. So, you have this in your mind. There are three simple steps and I’m going to give you them in three simple words. Establish is step one, nurture is step two, and act is step three. In other words, number one, establish the belief that you deserve everything that you’re willing to earn in your life. We’ll unpack that statement. So, number one is establish. Number two is nurture the belief that you are capable of achieving everything that you want, nurture that belief that you’ve established. If you establish it but you don’t nurture it, then it’s going to fall by the wayside. It won’t become a part of who you are. You won’t embody it. You’ve got to nurture that belief every day. And I talk about how to do that today. And then number three, act, act in alignment with the belief to earn what it is that you’ve decided you deserve and nothing less.
All right. Before we dive into the content today, I want to take just a couple of minutes to thank one of our sponsors. And I also want to mention our app, and I’ll get there in a sec. But first and foremost, Organifi, and I actually want to dive deep. Often, I just mentioned Organifi. I share with you the high level that they make some of the highest quality organic whole food supplements. Today, I want to talk about a specific product and that is Pure, made for mental clarity and digestion. I had stopped taking Pure for a minute, maybe a few weeks or months even. I don’t know how long it had been. I had stopped taking it. I ran out and then I didn’t have anymore. And then I got it in the mail and the other day it was like 4:30 in the afternoon and I had some work I still needed to do. And I took Pure. By the way, the poor part is I was tired. It was the end of the day or toward the end of the workday. I was tired. My brain was like shut off. I took Pure. I had just got it in the mail, first time I took it in months, and within 30 minutes, it’s like an on switch. My brain is turned on and I’m not exaggerating that. I highly recommend that you check this product out. Head over to Organifi.com/Pure. And again, this is organic, non-GMO, and it includes ingredients like lion’s mane, organic apple cider vinegar powder, organic baobab. I don’t know how you pronounce that, B-A-O-B-A-B. I don’t know how you pronounce it but it works. Anyway, so check it out for mental clarity and digestion, Organifi.com/Hal and use the discount code “HAL,” my name, Hal, for 20% off your order of Pure or any other products that you’d like to get.
And then real quick, I wanted to take a minute or less to mention the Miracle Morning routine app in case you’re not familiar. I’m looking in the App Store, 1.1 thousand ratings now, 4.8 out of 5 stars. And I’ll read you just a couple. This one is titled A True Blessing. “I’m still a work in progress but I’m so very grateful for the Miracle Morning app. It’s easy to use and helps me stay accountable. The support within the app is tremendous. Having videos from Hal and other members share their stories and cheer me on is encouraging. Thank you for offering this free resource. It is truly a blessing.” So, that is someone that uses the free version of the Miracle Morning app and then there is a pro version of the app as well. And this person mentions I think the pro version. They said, “Love the Miracle Morning app. I use it most mornings to organize my SAVERS. The content is creative, fun, and simple to use. Great narrators, lots of variety, and flexibility in how you enjoy the app. I like how it’s straightforward and easy to use, so I hope future updates don’t complicate it too much. In my view, it’s perfect as is. All that needs to be done is expand the library of content over time. Great job.”
And the content this person is referring to, there are over 150 guided practices now in the pro version of the app. You get a seven-day trial and then it’s like, I don’t even know how much, it’s $8 a month or you can do a yearly subscription, but it’s pretty affordable. But do the free version if you have the free version and if you want to do a seven-day trial, of course, you can try that as well. But the app, so it just makes me so happy to see that the app is everything that I hoped it would be. And the reason it took me so long to make a Miracle Morning app is I wanted it to be perfect. That’s my problem, right? I am a perfectionist. You might be able to relate to that, but I wanted it to be the ultimate Miracle Morning app that facilitated every single aspect of the SAVERS, and it has now become that. With the new release, you can pick a 30-day challenge. It tells you exactly what to listen to. There’s activities for all the SAVERS, just a ton of resources. So, you can go to MiracleMorningApp.com whether you are a Samsung user or a Google user or an iPhone user, it works on all platforms.
All right. Goal achievers, I love you, I appreciate you. Let’s dive into how to deserve everything you want in life.
[EPISODE]
Hal Elrod: Goal achievers and members of the Miracle Morning community, brothers and sisters, welcome to today’s podcast episode. The reason I’m laughing is this is actually, first of all, it’s like my fifth attempt to record this today. Not sure where my brain’s at. Hoping I’m going to nail this one. But the other reason I’m laughing is, actually, I recorded a podcast episode for you yesterday and I’m deciding not to publish it. Why is that? Well, the topic of yesterday, well, it wasn’t really a focused topic. I ended up thinking I was going to title it a rant about controversial topics because that’s kind of what it was. It was a rant about controversial topics. And I know some of you are like, “Hal, dude, you got to publish that. I want to hear that.” I will. I actually will. In fact, I was so thoughtful about whether or not to publish this that last night I paid to have it transcribed so that I could read the entire episode. I had already listened to it and then decided I was going to title it or rant about controversial topics, but I wanted to go through it with a fine-tooth comb. So, then I had it transcribed and after really thoughtful review and consideration, I just decided that it wasn’t my best work and it was not the best use of your time.
Because while there were a few gems in there, there were some valuable perspectives and insights that I think would help you, add value for you, I took way too long to get there. I was all over the place, and I know some of you are also thinking like, “Hal, that’s your style. You’re always all over the place.” It’s my ADHD style but to the point being, I want anything I put out. I want to really serve you. And so, it was 44 minutes of ranting yesterday. I will publish that episode, not that episode. I’m going to review the transcription. I’m going to take a lot of detailed notes and I’m going to make it far more concise so that the content of that episode, you’re going to get the content but in a much easier to digest and process and implement format. So, that will be coming out here at some point and I think I’m going to call it instead of a rant about controversial topics because I’ve been really thinking about it, it’ll probably be called “Are We Plugged into the Matrix?” So, I’ll just plant that as a seed to intrigue you as to a future episode. So, if you see any episode that comes out here in the next few months with the word “matrix” in it, I do encourage you to listen to it because a lot of thought has gone into that episode. In fact, three years of thoughts that I’ve suppressed will be in that episode.
All right. Let’s get into today’s episode. So, how to get everything you want in life? And the focus today on how to get everything you want in life is going to be on deservedness. Because in life you only get what you deserve. Same with me. I only get what I deserve in life. And I should say what I believe I deserve. Well, that’s part of it. Let me unpack this. So, this morning I was riding my exercise bike, followed by an outdoor grounding meditation, which I’ve been doing daily. It’s basically just standing barefoot outside in our backyard and connecting with the earth, both with my feet actually physically connecting with the earth, but also connecting with the earth in terms of really being present to nature and taking a lot of deep breaths and clearing my mind and listening to the rustling. You know, if there’s a little bit of wind there was this morning listening to the rustling among the leaves. And sometimes if it’s early enough, I’ll do some sun gazing and stare at the sun. And if you want to Google sun gazing and grounding and the benefits of those, you can.
But I do believe that nature for me is if you really think about before modern conveniences, even the house like let’s say pre-house like go back hundreds of years before there were houses and computers and phones and the things that we spend most of our time focused on or in or around or whatever technology and conveniences and comforts, creature comforts, if you will, it was just human beings, animals, and earth like that was it. That is our prehistoric foundational. That’s the essence of where we came from. That’s nature. And so, the more often you can reconnect with nature, the better. And so, for me, I realized a long time ago that I was not connecting with nature nearly enough. I was spending all day every day in the house only with very little spurts of nature. And you think about it, is that how human beings were designed? Were we designed to live away from nature, hidden away in our house, in our air-conditioned car, and so on and so forth? And my answer to that would be no. We should be in nature as much as humanly possible. So, what I do now, and this is hopefully you can model this in your own way, but I bookend my days with nature.
So, 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., I spend just like 10 minutes, 15 minutes in nature and I try to also go on hikes and lay out by the pool and spend time outdoors with my family and whether it’s playing basketball or taking hikes or going on walks or whatever. But kind of like my Miracle Morning is my daily practice to ensure that I get my personal development in before anything else gets in the way, this grounding meditation that I do every morning at 7:30 a.m. after my workout, by the way, I work out from 7 to 7:30, then I make a smoothie and then I go outside and I sit down with my smoothie and I spend time in nature, and sometimes I do it without the smoothie but anyway. And then in the evening, I do the same thing. And what is my objective? It’s to be completely present in that moment to let go of my compulsory need for thinking, that incessant mental chatter that we typically live with and are bombarded with every day, and then to just be really grateful so I just express and experience heartfelt gratitude for the moment. I pray while I’m in nature. I meditate while I’m in nature. I do sometimes some breathwork while I’m in nature.
And again, all of this is barefoot, standing on my lawn or on our backyard. So, I encourage you to give that a shot. It’s really a beautiful way to bookend both days and I just thank God for our property and for this home that I have and for my breath and my body and my health and my nature and my family, all the things. So, this morning, as I was doing that, I caught myself thinking I was just incessantly thinking about all the things on my… Today’s a really busy day. I’ve got a bunch of interviews and I’ve got meetings and I’ve got just a ton of stuff going on. But thankfully, my mom’s in town. We’re going to go bowling tonight after I get off work with the kids and my wife, Ursula. We’re going to have a great time. So, a little bit of balance today, right? I started out with working out in nature and Miracle Morning, and then I’m working during the day and then I have family time in the evenings, so it’s going to be a great day. But this morning caught myself thinking incessantly about all the busy stuff I got to do today, and I caught myself and then I simply gave myself permission to enjoy the moment.
I went, “Okay. Hal, you don’t have to think about all this stuff right now. This stuff is going to happen today. You’re going to get everything done that you need get done. It’s on your to-do list. It’s on your calendar. It’s on the agenda. In this moment, just be at peace. In this moment, just be happy.” And I reminded myself that I deserve to be happy to feel good. And I took a deep breath and I felt happy for no external reason but simply because I gave myself permission to feel that way. And I was reminded that in life we only get what we believe we deserve, and we only believe what we give ourselves permission to believe. Of course, believing you deserve something is rarely enough. Unless it is a mental or emotional state, you can immediately give yourself permission to feel that. But in terms of if you want to be healthy, just believing you deserve good health is not enough to give you good health. Of course, you must act upon that belief. You must live in alignment with that belief. If you believe that you deserve to be healthy or wealthy, you’re not going to make money by believing you deserve it. You have to act in alignment. And to deserve something is to earn it.
Let me say that again because that’s so important. To deserve something is to earn it. And to earn it, there are two general components. There’s the internal belief that you must establish and nurture that you do deserve it. You must develop that belief. That’s the first part of earning it. And then you must act on that belief by doing the things that will create that outcome that you believe that you deserve. So, if you believe you deserve to be healthy or you believe you deserve to be happy or wealthy or you fill in the blank, have a great relationship, be successful, advance in your career, whatever it is, that belief is where it starts, the belief that you deserve it. You’ve got to establish that belief. You’ve got to nurture that belief. But then you have to put forth the effort to earn what you believe you deserve. So, let me break this into three steps for us, and we’re going to keep today’s episode short. I want this to be really simple, and I’ve been really focusing lately. I don’t know if you’ve noticed the last three episodes I think. I’ve been trying to keep them closer to 30 minutes than an hour or so. And sometimes, again, if it’s an interview, I don’t want to rush it. So, the interviews are usually going to be roughly an hour or 45 minutes, an hour, hour and 15.
But solo episodes I want to keep as short as possible so that you don’t get overwhelmed but you just get enough to think differently, to apply it to your life, etcetera. So, here is a three-step formula to get everything that you want in life, and it centers around deservedness because, again, in life, you only get what you believe you deserve. So, number one, establish the belief that you deserve everything you’re willing to earn. Establish the belief that you deserve everything that you’re willing to earn. Now, you could say establish the belief that you deserve everything that you want. In fact, I think when I first wrote, I was outlining these episodes, that’s how I phrased it. Establish the belief that you did everything that you want but you don’t deserve everything that you want. You only deserve everything you’re willing to earn. Like I said, to deserve something is to earn it. You only deserve what you’re willing to earn, right, what you’re willing to work for, put the effort for. Now, there is a nuance to that, which is in terms of mental and emotional states, you don’t necessarily have to earn those, right? You can choose to be happy even before you do the things to earn circumstances or outcomes that add to your happiness. You can actually start with happy.
In fact, Marci Shimoff wrote the book, Happy for No Reason, which is all about you can be happy for no reason. You can choose to be happy. When I was out on the lawn outside, I just chose to be happy. I was like, “Oh, I’m feeling stressed and overwhelmed because I’m thinking of all these things that I need to get done today, but that’s not serving me in this moment. What do I want to experience in this moment? I want to experience joy, gratitude, love, peace. So, I’m going to choose those things.” So, that’s the one nuance in terms of deserving something, to deserve something is to earn it. You can actually deserve mental and emotional states without earning it, and we could get granular with that and I could say, “Well, no, you have to earn it by choosing to experience those states.” So, in some ways, even a mental or emotional state, you have to earn it by giving yourself permission to experience it. You know, it’s a pretty low-hanging fruit in terms of the earning, right? You don’t have to work really, really hard to deserve it. You just have to give yourself permission that you deserve it.
So, back to this three-step formula to deserve everything that you want in life. Number one, establish the belief that you deserve everything that you’re willing to earn. And how do you do that, by the way? You do it in writing. One of my favorite affirmations, you’ve probably heard this, is that I am just as worthy, deserving, and capable of everything I want in my life as any other person. And then I often add to that and I will prove it today with my actions. I’ll say that again, and that’s worth writing down. I am just as worthy, deserving, and capable of everything I want in my life as any other person. And I will prove that today with my actions. That is like my foundational affirmation, and an affirmation is a reinforcement of a belief. I’m reinforcing that belief that I am just as worthy, I am just as deserving, and I am just as capable as any other person. And that leads to step two of this formula. You’ve got to nurture the belief that you are capable of achieving everything that you want. You have to nurture the belief that you are capable of achieving everything that you want.
And again, that affirmation handles step one and step two, establishing the belief that you deserve everything you’re willing to earn and nurturing the belief that you are capable of achieving everything that you want is to create an affirmation like the one I just stated, which is I’m just as worthy, deserving and capable of everything I want in life as any other person on earth, and I will prove that today with my actions. You need to affirm that every day over and over and over so that you believe it and you can reword it if you want to tweak it to fit what resonates with you. Number three, you’ve got to put forth the effort to earn what you believe you deserve. You’ve got to put forth the effort to earn what you believe you deserve. So, these three steps if you could picture them in kind of a circle, right, like one of those where it’s like three arrows, one arrow leads the next arrow, leads to the next arrow. So, you establish the belief that you deserve everything you’re willing to earn, you nurture the belief that you are capable of achieving everything that you want, and then you put forth the effort to earn what you believe you deserve. And then round and round you go. And that will foster that belief that you deserve everything you’re willing to earn, which will give you permission to nurture that belief that you’re capable. I mean, it just goes round and round and round.
So, in order to _____ whatever your blank is, be happy, be healthy, be wealthy, have a great marriage, be a great parent. In order to _____, you must believe you deserve and are capable of _____ and then act in alignment with that belief. That’s kind of a summary of the formula. So, again, if you’re taking notes, I encourage you to take notes. The three things to write down. Number one is the formula, establish the belief that you deserve everything you’re willing to earn, nurture the belief that you’re capable of achieving everything you want, and put forth the effort to earn what you believe you deserve. Then affirm it. “I am just as worthy, deserving, and capable of everything I want in my life as any other person on earth. And I will prove it today with my actions.” And then the last piece: In order to _____, I must believe I deserve and I’m capable of _____ and then act in alignment with that belief. So, really what I just shared, those three pieces that I just shared, that formula, that affirmation, and that summary, they’re all really three different ways of saying the same thing, arriving at the same conclusion.
And again, how do you get everything you want in life? You establish the belief that you deserve it, you nurture the belief that you’re capable of it, and you put forth the effort to earn it. That’s the simplest way that I can put it. So, how do you get everything you want in life? I’m going to say it again. Number one, you establish the belief that you deserve it, you nurture the belief that you’re capable of achieving it, and you put forth the effort to earn it. That’s it. And as simple as that sounds, it’s not easy because it’s always easier to do nothing. It’s easier to keep doing what you’ve always been doing, to keep believing what you’ve always been believing, to use your lack of belief in what you deserve as justification for why you don’t have to put forth the effort. Because who are you to be successful or wealthy or special, right? We have these self-limiting beliefs about who we are and what we deserve and what we’re capable of. And the reality is it’s the affirmation that I gave you a few minutes ago. You are just as worthy, deserving, and capable as any other person on earth. But you have to decide that you are those things.
You have to decide that you’re just as worthy. You have to decide that you’re just as deserving. You have to decide that you’re just as capable. You have to nurture the belief that you are those things, and then you have to live in alignment. You have to put forth the effort every day. You don’t have to work 60 hours a week. And I know, I would imagine… I shouldn’t say I know because there’s a lot of people listening to this and everybody’s different and we’re at different places in our lives, we have different beliefs, and some of us where things are going well right now, and some of us things are not going well and some of us they’re the worst they’ve ever been on and on and on. And if you’re not in a great place mentally and emotionally and based on studies and statistics and surveys right now, that’s a large percentage of our population. In fact, when we survey our audience, members of the Miracle Morning community, listeners of the Achieve Your Goals podcast, the top answers.
And actually, there’s a new one that emerged in the Miracle Morning app the other day, which I did not expect, when we’re asking people what area of your life. So, we’re starting to do something in the Miracle Morning app where we’re going to bring the Wheel of Life into it. And right now, I believe we have it in a very basic format where you simply assess of these ten areas of your life, your health, your finances, your relationships, your mental health, and happiness, your physical health, I mean, all of these ten components of life, your personal development, what do you need the most help with? And we’re going to start customizing the app and I’m going to start doing videos here to make it more robust where it’s like your journey will be customized in the app based on what areas you need help with. So, if you need help with finances, then we’re going to be giving you meditations and affirmations and visualizations and reading suggestions, and journaling prompts that are all based on the area of your life that you need help with. So, right now we’re just collecting data from app users to understand where are people needing the most help so we can develop that content accordingly.
So, the top two answers that people have given when I’ve surveyed in the past that people need help with are mental health and happiness is always number one, and number two is finances. Well, in the app now, tied at number one is personal development, which totally surprised me. I did not expect that, that people are saying that you all need help and those of you that are using the app, I guess specifically but it’s a pretty, you know, we have 150,000 people that have downloaded the free version of the Miracle Morning app. So, it’s a large number of people that were able to collect data from and finding out that, “Wow. I didn’t realize personal development is at the top of the list among mental health and happiness.” But for many people listening, I’m busy, I’m overwhelmed, or I don’t believe I deserve the things I want or I’m not sure that I’m capable of the things that I want. Those are very fair and reasonable responses. You know, the last few years and for many people, life has been really difficult and really challenging beyond what some of us feel that we’re capable of. Our capacity, mine included, has been tested and pushed to the limits over the last few years and beyond.
And so, in order for you to achieve everything you want in your life, it starts with these three steps. You’ve got to establish the belief that you deserve it. You deserve to be happy. You deserve to be healthy. You deserve to be financially secure and beyond financially free. You deserve to have a great relationship or relationships with everyone in your life and I know all of that is easier said than done, but it’s also doable but only if you choose to believe that it’s doable, that you deserve to have everything in your life that you want because you’re willing to earn it. So, I encourage you to consider what we talked about today. Do you feel that you deserve to be happy, to be healthy? Do you give yourself permission to believe those things? When I was standing out in the backyard today, remember, I was stressed out and overwhelmed just thinking of all the things I had to do. And then I stopped and I reminded myself, I deserve to feel good in this moment, I deserve to be present to the moment at hand, this beautiful scenery in the backyard that I’m staring at, that I’m looking at, the sunrise, etcetera. I deserve. And I’m going to give myself permission right now to let go of my incessant compulsory need to solve problems 24/7.
Ever feel like that? Like, your brain is constantly, it’s like a problem-solving machine. It just doesn’t shut off and you feel overwhelmed because the more problems you try to solve, the more you realize you have so many problems and sometimes you can’t figure out the solutions and so you feel overwhelmed with life. You deserve to be happy. You deserve to be healthy. You deserve to be wealthy but only if you’re willing to earn it and the first step to earning it is establishing the belief that you deserve it, nurturing the belief that you’re capable, and then scheduling a little time every day to put forth the effort to earn what you believe you deserve. That is the circle, the cycle, the process that will enable you to get everything that you want in your life but you have to do it. You can’t just listen to this podcast and go, “Yeah. That makes sense. I feel inspired.” No. Turn that inspiration into action or nothing changes in your life. This podcast will fade away as a distant memory. You had to write these things down and you’ve got to review them every day.
In order to _____, you must believe that you deserve and are capable of _____. Again, the blank is to be happy, to be healthy, to be wealthy, to advance in your career, to start that business, to write that book, to change your marriage, to fix your relationship with your daughter, whatever it is. That’s your blank. In order to _____, you must believe you deserve and are capable of _____ and then act in alignment with that belief. I’ll say that again because I just stuttered and mumbled it. In order to _____, whatever outcome you want, that’s your blank, you must believe that you deserve and are capable of _____ achieving that outcome and then act in alignment with that belief. That’s it. That’s what I want you to take away from this episode today. I want you to, I’m inviting you, I’m encouraging you, I’m challenging you to believe that you are just as worthy, deserving, and capable of everything that you want in your life as any other person, and then act in alignment with that belief, establish the belief, nurture the belief, act on the belief. Establish the belief, nurture the belief, act on the belief.
And if I’ve been repetitive in this episode, that’s intentional because I want you to remember this. I want you to act on this. I want you to live in alignment with what we’re talking about. I want you to establish the belief, I want you to nurture the belief, and I want you to act on the belief that you are just as worthy, deserving, and capable of anything that you want in your life, so long as you’re willing to earn it. Live that truth. And let me close the episode today with one word, excellence. Excellence. What I just shared, establishing that belief, nurturing that belief, and then acting in alignment with that belief, that is how you achieve excellence in your life. Everything that you want requires excellence. It’s you not settling. What is excellence? It’s the opposite of settling for less than you want and less than you’re capable of. That’s what excellence is. And you deserve excellence in your life. And you are capable of excellence, and you are worthy of excellence. So, stop settling if you have been and I know we all settle at times in our life and in areas of our life. Stop settling. You deserve the best that life has to offer. And you are capable of that.
